Afrobeats fans, get ready to witness a major power shift in the music industry. Davido just launched his own record label, Nine+ Records, marking a monumental turning point in his career. This isn’t just a new venture for Davido; it’s a bold move that signals his evolution from a chart-topping artist to a full-fledged music industry leader.
The dream team behind the scenes
A big shoutout to the powerhouse legal team, BFA and Co Legal. They masterfully negotiated and closed the deal between Davido and the industry giant, UnitedMasters.
This collaboration is a win-win. It brought together Davido’s artistic vision and UnitedMasters’ established influence.
From chart-topping artist to music mogul
Davido’s decision to launch Nine+ Records signifies a major step up. He’s not just creating a platform for himself; he’s aiming to build a global music empire. Nine+ Records goes beyond just Afrobeats, setting its sights on fostering talent across all musical genres.
The birth of a vision
Believe it or not, the seeds of Nine+ Records were sown at a seemingly ordinary industry event—the 2023 UnitedMasters SelectCon. It was there that Davido and Steve Stoute, chairman of UnitedMasters, made a fateful connection.
Stoute recognises greatness
Davido’s exceptional talent and ambition challenged the impressed Stoute to envision a record label that could stand toe-to-toe with the industry’s biggest names. This forward-thinking idea resonated with Davido. Davido is known for his dedication to nurturing up-and-coming artists.
Empowering the next generation
Nine+ Records isn’t just about building Davido’s legacy; it’s about giving back. This new label presents a unique opportunity for Davido to empower the next generation of musical stars, all while solidifying his own position as a true music industry leader.
Davido’s launch of Nine+ Records is a win not just for him and his fans but for music lovers around the world who crave fresh sounds and a new wave of talented artists. This is definitely a development to keep an eye on!
Not just about the hits: Davido’s passion for upcoming artists
“Nurturing new talent is a passion I’ve always held,” says Davido. “I’ve been doing it since Afrobeats wasn’t even a recognised genre.”
While Davido brings star power and musical talent, he recognises the value of experience. Steve Stoute, with his extensive music industry knowledge, will be a key mentor for Davido as he ventures deeper into the business side of things.
The secret recipe for success: teamwork and structure
The legal team behind the deal, BFA and Co Legal, stresses the importance of two things for any new record label to flourish: a strong team and a solid foundation. Sure, talent is undeniable with Davido, but BFA emphasises the need for a well-structured organisation to ensure Nine+ Records achieves long-term success.
“Bobo Ajudua, CEO of BFA and Co Legal and Davido’s manager, played a crucial role in securing this historic deal,” says the spokesperson for BFA and Co Legal, Ima Elijah. “We are confident that Davido’s vision, combined with Steve Stoute’s experience and a strong team, will propel Nine+ Records to global success.”
Big ups to BFA and Co Legal! Their smooth handling of the Davido and UnitedMasters deal proves their muscle in the entertainment law world. Not only did they close a groundbreaking deal, but they also showed their dedication to helping talented artists like Davido achieve their dreams.
This impressive feat positions BFA and Co Legal as key players in shaping the future of not just the African music industry but the global music scene as a whole. We can expect to see them continue to make their mark on the industry in the years to come.
