The National Universities Commission (NUC) on Monday upgraded the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, into Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology (MAUST).

The Executive Secretary, NUC, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, officially announced the take-off of the university in Abuja at the formal presentation of the school’s recognition letter to Gov. Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun.

Rasheed said that the university would be recognised as the 45th State University in the country.

According to him, the take-off of the university will mean that Ogun State will now have three state universities.

“Ogun state is the intellectual capital of black Africa.

“From the NUC records, Olabisi Onabanjo University and Tai Solarin University of Education are two state universities but the addition of the University of Science and Technology will make it three.

“What this shows is that the governor is really doing well as he has the education of the state at heart.

“Beginning from July 3, 2017, the Polytechnic has now been recognised as the 45th state university in Nigeria.”

Rasheed also noted that the NUC did not just create the university for access alone but the integrity and sanctity of the degree in Nigeria university.

He said an average graduate of Nigerian university with a very good average degree earned (2-2) in a good university in Nigeria and qualifies for any university in the world performs better.

“Our qualities are of international standard, we have high standard in the quality of education in Nigeria.

“We are still working to review our curriculum to make it more competitive and ensure that it is of international best standards to solve our problems.

“We want to graduates students who are familiar with our culture, tradition, history, science; and we want those graduates to be citizens of the world who can fit in anywhere.

“We want to assure Nigerians that the quality of our degree is quite okay and we are working to improve on it,” he said.

He, however, called on other governors to take a cue from Ogun state governor and advance the course of the university system in the country.

Gov. Ibikunle Amosun in his response said for any nation to get it right, the tertiary institutions must do well.

Amosun said the upgrade of the Polytechnic to a university was done through the enabling law of the Ogun State House of Assembly.

He added that the university would be a reference point as the government of the state was committed to leave no stone unturned to take the university to its greater height.

He added that certain funds had been created for the funding of the university.

“As we are upgrading the Polytechnic to a University, we are earlier in Kaduna today to establish a new Polytechnic because we don’t want the Polytechnic to die like that, so we are relocating the Polytechnic to Ipokia area of the state.

“The university of science and technology will now be in Abeokuta.

The governor said a technical committee had been brainstorming in the last six years on the way forward to bring this to fruition.

He added that the university would also help to develop the human capital that would improve the industrial hub of the state.

He, however, promised to provide science and technology solution to areas in health, security and environmental challenges bedeviling the country.

King Charles Returns To Public Engagement | Fab.ng

King Charles, following his cancer diagnosis several months ago, is preparing to participate in his inaugural significant public engagement since receiving the news. Alongside Queen Camilla, he will embark on a visit to a hospital and specialised cancer facility. This is aimed at demonstrating their unwavering support for medical personnel, patients, and ongoing research efforts in the field.

Amid his battle with cancer, King Charles has been notably absent from public gatherings and has refrained from large crowds. However, he attended an Easter Sunday church service earlier this year.

There’s been a recent surge of hopefulness surrounding his health status. Buckingham Palace released a statement indicating that the King’s medical team is highly encouraged by the progress made thus far in his undisclosed cancer treatment regimen.

The forthcoming visit serves a dual purpose: not only does it symbolise the King’s solidarity with those affected by cancer, but it also aligns with his personal mission to raise awareness about the importance of early cancer detection. Earlier this year, King Charles made the courageous decision to disclose his own health challenges, hoping to inspire others to prioritise regular check-ups and screenings.

Despite the ongoing nature of his cancer treatment, the specifics of its completion date remain undisclosed. Nevertheless, as part of his royal responsibilities, King Charles is anticipated to be sufficiently recovered to host a formal visit from the Emperor and Empress of Japan in late June, underscoring the importance of his role as head of state amidst his health journey.

My Parents Split Up Affected Me – Shatta Wale Recounts Trauma

Shatta Wale Recounts Trauma On Parents' Split Up | Fab.ng

Ghanaian dancehall artist Shatta Wale opened up about his parents’ separation in a heartfelt message. Shatta Wale, known for his tough persona, shared how this deeply affected him emotionally.

He described witnessing his parents’ divorce at a young age as a life-changing experience that left lasting scars. He struggled with emotional turmoil and a lack of stability growing up in a broken home. This absence of a secure family environment impacted his sense of security and identity during a critical time in his development.

Shatta Wale also revealed the emotional toll this situation took on him.

He shared the difficulty of coping with the emotional fallout and feeling lost and vulnerable. The experience left him with deep emotional wounds that affected his relationships and overall well-being.

Perhaps the most painful detail was the lack of understanding he received. They labelled him disrespectful whenever he tried to express his concerns about his parents’ behaviour. This ultimately pushed him to leave home in search of peace, even if it meant being homeless for a while.

“Growing up, I lived with my parents for a while but they did not help me. They made a mistake and broke up. They created a broken home; our home was broken and it affected me so much. Our broken home affected me. Anytime I talked or complained about this, they labeled me disrespectful. So, I left them. I left the house. I run from my parents.

“You know what my parents put me through? Because of them, I slept on the streets, I slept in front of stores. Those days, it was the prostitutes at Nkrumah Circle who were watching over me. I slept at filling stations at Circle including the one that got burnt. I slept on the streets of Adabraka and so on.”

Shatta Wale went on to explain how this experience shaped him in another way. To cope with the pain and instability, he developed the defence mechanism of isolating himself from others. He explained that this tendency to distance himself continues to this day.

Just like he felt unheard and unsupported by his parents, he finds it easier to cut people out of his life rather than risk getting hurt again. Anyone who brings negativity or trouble into his world is likely to be pushed away, a reflection of the deep-seated fear of emotional turmoil he developed during his childhood.

“As a result, I started running from stress, running from people who would stress me. That’s where I learned how to cut people off because I don’t want stress. I cut people off without thinking twice. I am the chief cutter. I have learned that in life, it is important to cut off anyone who wants to bring negativity into your life.”
