Old Movies

4. Look Who’s Talking (1989)

Kristie Alley plays a single mother who falls for her cabbie (John Travolta) as she tries to get her life in order. It’s prime Amy Heckerling, who would later bring you Clueless, of course. Special appearance by Bruce Willis as the voice of Mikey, the baby who talks to you, the viewer. The second and third film are highly recommended as well.

Old Movies

5. Back to the Future (1985)

Another Robert Zemeckis fantasy, this one starring Michael J. Fox as a teen who travels back in time to 1955, where he meets his parents. Christopher Lloyd is the kooky scientist who gets him there. Watch the whole trilogy.

Old Movies

6. Basic Instinct (1992)

Sharon Stone is the prime suspect in the murder of a rock star, so of course the detective played by Michael Douglas has an affair with her. (Michael’s movie characters make horrible choices.)

8. Pretty In Pink (1986)

8. Pretty In Pink (1986)

Another wrong-side-of-the-tracks love story (these were big in the eighties), with a spectacular dance scene by a character named Duckie (Jon Cryer). It also stars Molly Ringwald, so you know it’s an instant classic.

9. Dirty Dancing (1987)

9. Dirty Dancing (1987)

Step aside, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone: The Lift was done right only once in the movies, and it was by Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey in this timeless wrong-side-of-the-tracks love story.

10. Fatal Attraction (1987)

11. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

11. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

12. E.T. (1982)

12. E.T. (1982)

One of the most heartwarming tales of friendship (between a kid and an alien); directed by Steven Spielberg and featuring Drew Barrymore when she was a peanut.

13. My Girl (1991)

13. My Girl (1991)

Vada Sultenfuss and Thomas J. (the remarkable Anna Chlumsky and Macaulay Culkin) are best friends. They ride bikes, climb willow trees. But don’t let that storyline fool you: This movie will rip your heart out.

14. The Bodyguard (1992)

14. The Bodyguard (1992)

One of the old movies that remains evergreen. Here, Whitney Houston plays a pop star who hires a bodyguard (Kevin Costner) to protect her from a stalker. There’s a great twist — and one of the best soundtracks of all time.
15. Top Gun (1986)

Damn, Tom Cruise in aviators. Playing a badass Navy pilot in training. What are you waiting for? Soundtrack gem: “Take My Breath Away,” by Berlin.

16. Ghost (1990)

16. Ghost (1990)

This is that movie with the famous pottery/sex scene! Patrick Swayze is not a ghost at that point, FYI, but he becomes one shortly thereafter. With the help of medium Oda Mae Brown (played by Whoopi Goldberg, who took home an Oscar for her performance), he communicates with the love he left behind (Demi Moore), who’s in danger herself.

17. Man in the Moon (1991)

17. Man in the Moon (1991)

This was Reese Witherspoon’s first role, at 15, and it’s a gut-wrenching one at that. She plays Dani, a rural Louisiana teenager who falls for the new farm-boy next door (Jason London) — only he has eyes for Dani’s older sister. That’s not even the sad part.

18. Pretty Woman (1990)

18. Pretty Woman (1990)

You’d be hard-pressed to find a performance more charming than Julia Roberts as Vivian, a sex worker who agrees to spend a whole week with a wealthy businessman (Richard Gere) — then winds up falling for him (and he for her). There’s a shopping montage set to Roy Orbison’s “Pretty Woman” that is easily the best shopping montage in movie history.

19. Moonstruck (1987)

19. Moonstruck (1987)

Cher won a Best Actress Oscar for her role as Loretta, a woman who falls for her fiancé’s brother (Nicolas Cage). Here’s her acceptance speech, which you should watch for fun.

20. Parenthood (1989)

20. Parenthood (1989)

Before the TV show, there was the Ron Howard-directed movie with its all-star cast (Steve Martin, Mary Steenburgen, Dianne Wiest, Keanu Reeves, and so on). The story is simple — it follows the ups and downs of the Buckman family — but the results are spectacular. P.S. The movie also stars a young Joaquin Phoenix, then called Leaf. This is definitely one of the old movies you must find and watch.

Grammy Winning Tyla Hits A Fashion Milestone

Grammy Winning Tyla Hits A Fashion Milestone | Fab.ng

When South Africa’s rising pop star, Tyla, chooses her clothes, there are two essential qualities she looks for: the ability to allow her to dance freely and the ability to move comfortably.

While describing her personal style, the young and talented artist who brought us the hit song “Water” emphasized the importance of feeling comfortable. However, her definition of comfort does not extend to casual attire like sweatpants and jerseys, particularly when she is in the public eye.

Additionally, the rise of her online presence on TikTok, which now boasts over 7.2 million followers, has seen “comfortable” translate to performing her own dance routines in unique outfits like macramé tube tops and very short miniskirts.

Just weeks ago, “comfortable” meant a glamorous, seafoam green Versace gown shimmering with fishnet overlays—a dazzling costume fit for a modern Venus. Tyla wore this as she proudly accepted the first-ever Grammy for Best African Music Performance for her chart-topping R&B hit, “Water.” Today, “comfortable” has a whole new meaning: a stylish linen set as she dances effortlessly in Gap’s Spring 2024 campaign, marking her debut with a major global fashion brand.

The video showcases Tyla and a group of dancers performing Shay Latukolan’s energetic choreography to “Back On 74,” a catchy, genre-blending song by the British group Jungle, which has amassed over one billion views on TikTok.

Each dancer is adorned in comfortable and flowing pieces from Gap’s spring collection, crafted from breathable linen fabric. Tyla’s outfit features a stylish cropped top and relaxed-fit cargo pants, accented by a swaying chain-link belt. The video not only highlights the comfortable nature of the clothing but also demonstrates how it can convey confidence and a touch of elegance, making it perfect for both movement and style.

“I love marrying my music and the way I look, I feel like it goes hand in hand,” Tyla explains. “I see that also sonically with my album that’s coming out, and with the Gap campaign.”

As Tyla embarks on her first major tour and showcases her characteristic drive and ambition, the artist is infusing her on-stage style with even more personal expression.

A passionate supporter of South African designers, such as the talented LVMH Young Fashion Designer Prize winner Thebe Magugu, she proudly weaves elements of her heritage into her fashion choices.
